Ladybirds – what’s it all about?

Ladybirds Playgroup was established in September 2011 by Ian & Kathryn McMullan. Following the collapse of our family-run contracting business as a result of the 2008 recession, we needed to find a new way to produce an income and keep a roof over our heads!
With money tight, we had to think of a way to use what we had at home to create a new, successful business.

We had 2 double garages in our back yard which were only used for storing the children’s toys and housing our lawnmower and we knew that these buildings would be the ideal place to start our very own playgroup.

The only playgroups in our locality were community run and we knew we could create something special in our own backyard . . . somewhere warm and homely, bright and stimulating – the perfect place for children to come and learn through play.

Kathryn was a primary school teacher up until the birth of our first son and was more than qualified to take on this venture . . . so, after much deliberation, our double garages were transformed into Ladybirds Playgroup and the adventure began.

The doors opened on 1st September 2011 and the playgroup soon grew to include a service offering full time day care, funded pre-school and after-school care.

Providing a first class, top quality service to children and parents is our number one goal and we are very proud to have attained Outstanding in All Areas in our very first ETI Inspection.

Ladybirds was born during a time of hardship and it’s success is testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of all those involved during the last ten years.
